Bard's Tale II Destiny Knight

The Bard’s Tale II: The Destiny Knight Joins Remastered Original

One of the most classic franchises in PC gaming is in the middle of a huge, sweeping update. Alongside the recent release of The Bard’s Tale IV: Barrows Deep, Krome Studios is hard at work updating and modernizing the original Bard’s Tale trilogy. Released as simply The Bard’s Tale Trilogy on Steam and GOG, the trio of games became a duo as of today for $14.99 on both platforms. The original Bard’s Tale came out with the package in August, and today marks the day that The Bard’s Tale II: The Destiny Knight joins the fun.

While both games still have hardcore gameplay, the team has spruced up what they can. This amounts to a lot of fancy lighting and effects in the now fully polygonal dungeons. Along with the new game, today’s update adds a few tweaks towards modern sensibilities. This includes an automap that keeps track of active traps and a confirmation message before you delete your save games. In addition to that, highly skilled rogues can now automatically disarm traps.

When The Bard’s Tale II: The Destiny Knight joins The Bard’s Tale Trilogy, it’s only the beginning of what’s to come in the future. This is the first in a planned trio of updates, with the second one coming in a couple of months. December will finish the trilogy with The Bard’s Tale III: Thief of Fate. After that, Krome Studios will add a Legacy Mode to all three titles. This will rebalance the game back towards the original level of difficulty if you’re a grizzled veteran. The new update is available now for owners of The Bard’s Tale Trilogy on Steam and GOG. For more details about what’s being added to the game, you can check out a full set of patch notes on the Steam store page.
