Blizzcon 2018: Attendee Asks If Diablo Immortal Is a Joke, Is Politely Shot Down

Blizzard announced one of its new Diablo games at Blizzcon 2018, but it wasn’t the big sequel some people wanted. One Blizzcon attendee asked the presenters on stage during a Q and A whether or not Diablo Immortal, the new Diablo Mobile game, was a joke. This question was met with unfortunate cheers from some of the crowd who must also have felt slighted that this video game didn’t immediately appear to appeal to their personal tastes.

As shown in a video of the event by the Skill Up Twitter account, a lone man rose from the crowd to ask what his question. Approaching the mic, this unnamed person posed his query unabashedly, saying, “Hey. I just was wondering, is this an out of season April Fools’ joke?”.

The response from the presenter on stage was handled deftly and with kindness despite just having their hard work reduced in front of a live audience.

“No,” he replied, “it’s a fully fledged Diablo experience on mobile, which everybody will get to play, and hopefully, which will bring new heroes to Sanctuary as well as welcoming our community back into it and something we’re very excited about.”

The key phrase of emphasizing “everybody” would have the opportunity to play this new title hopefully put any silly gatekeeping ideas from the crowd to bed. Others also expressed concern over the mobile title, as evidenced by the boos coming from audience after the developers stated that a PC version wasn’t currently on the table.

Diablo Immortal is a new MMO set in the Diablo universe which was just announced at Blizzcon 2018 but as of yet, no release date has been announced. Its story is situated between Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction and Diablo 3 and seems to be aimed at audiences of all kinds. Except that one guy.
