PlayStation Classic Age Rating

PlayStation Classic Age Rating Mature 17+, Adults Only

The PlayStation Classic Age Rating has been determined by the ESRB. The newest retro mini console by Sony falls into the Mature 17+ category, largely based on some of the games included in the library.

Sony first announced the PlayStation Classic back in September. This miniaturized version of the company’s first gaming console is retailing for $99.99 and is all set to work with modern televisions. It includes 20 games built into the console.

Prominent Twitter user Wario64 has noted on social media that the PlayStation Classic Age Rating has popped up on the ESRB website. The rating summary goes over some of the more contentious content that justifies the PlayStation Classic Age Rating. Some of the titles included with the console feature firearms used to kill humans or creatures from both first and third-person perspectives. There is also mention of other forms of violence from the selected titles including dismemberment, blood and gore, and coarse language.

There are 20 games that ship with the PlayStation Classic. Beloved classics like Final Fantasy 7 and Metal Gear Solid are some of the stronger choices on the retro console. Titles like Twisted MetalTekken 3, and Wild Arms bring a bit of variety to the genres on offer. Lesser-known titles like Intelligent Qube and Mr. Driller give these games a second chance at the spotlight (and perhaps highlight the weakness of the library available for Sony’s first console). While many of the included titles are certainly fine games, a number of other notable items in gaming history are unfortunately missing.

The PlayStation Classic age rating is one critical step towards it being made available for purchase to the public. The retro console is expected to release in early December 2018. It might be a good idea to put your pre-order in now while you can. You don’t want to find yourself unable to buy one at all due to a shortage.
