PlayStation 5 Square Enix AAA Game Reportedly in Development

A PlayStation 5 Square Enix AAA game is reportedly in development, if a screenshot from a LinkedIn profile is to be believed. The entry, which has since been removed, appeared to suggest that the next generation of Sony’s console, the PS5, is actively in development.

A screengrab of the LinkedIn resume was posted on a ResetEra thread on November 15, and gave another clear indication that it may not be long before the PS5’s unveiling. The 3D artist’s resume shows that the AAA title, from Square Enix owned studio Luminous Productions, is currently being worked on. With other titles such as Final Fantasy XV mentioned on the profile too, it seems that this leak is legitimate.

Luminous Productions’ own website has revealed that the company is working on a currently unannounced title, which lends support to this LinkedIn leak. A brief message from former Luminous Productions chief Takeshi Aramaki, who stood down from his post last week, claimed that the studio “couldn’t wait” to show off what it had been working on.

Rumors of the PS5’s development have been growing, but there had been no official word on its design or production until last month. In an interview with the Financial Times on October 9, Sony’s chief executive officer Kenichiro Yoshida confirmed that the next version of Sony’s console was a necessity.

“At this point, what I can say is it’s necessary to have a next-generation hardware,” Yoshida had said.

There’s no official date or year for when the PlayStation 5 may be revealed, although there have been rumors that a developer kit is currently in the hands of some game developers. Other rumblings have speculated a potential release date for 2019, 2020 or 2021. Meanwhile, PlayStation head John Kodera admitted at a corporate strategy meeting that the Playstation 4 was coming to the end of its lifecycle, with the console having been out for five years.
