New Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Tease Shows Silhouette of a More Buff Sonic

The first Sonic the Hedgehog movie tease has been revealed. It showcases a new look for Sonic the Hedgehog, who has apparently gone to the gym recently.

IGN recently posted a teaser for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie on Instagram, the likes of which can be seen below. Only a silhouette of the iconic character is visible, but it appears this is definitely a different-looking Sonic. His fur appears to be a bit more realistic than in previous games, and his body is more muscular, though he does still sport red shoes.

IGN’s website goes into more detail regarding the new look and the movie itself. Along with the realistic fur and new shoes, they also noted something that wasn’t seen in the trailer—Sonic’s eyes. Executive producer Tim Miller noted that even SEGA weren’t fans of how Sonic’s eyes were redesigned for the movie.

“I don’t think SEGA was entirely happy with the eye decision, but these sorts of things you go, ‘It’s going to look weird if we don’t do this,’” he said. “But everything is a discussion, and that’s kind of the goal, which is to only change what’s necessary and stay true to the rest of it.”

The article noted that the producers decided to change the eyes because Sonic is normally only seen with one eye, which would look weird in a live action film.

Sonic’s friends Knuckles and Tails were also brought up in the interview. Miller didn’t say if they would appear, but went on to say that there would be a few surprises in store for fans.

“I think the audience can expect to find some Easter eggs,” he said. “We don’t want to reveal any of that stuff, but I think there will be some very exciting things that fans of Sonic will get to see in this movie.”

The Sonic the Hedgehog movie is set for release in theaters on November 8, 2019 in the US. It will star Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnick and James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, who befriends Sonic in the film. Sonic himself will be voiced by Ben Schwartz.
