Spider-Man PS4 Game Of The Year Japan, Marvel's Avengers

Japanese Developers Vote Spider-Man PS4 Game of the Year

A poll of Japanese game developers has voted Spider-Man as their PS4 game of the year. Over one hundred developers in the Japanese gaming industry were consulted for this poll and they came to the conclusion that Insomniac Games has created the finest title of 2018.

Japanese magazine Weekly Famitsu had 128 developers get together and vote for their favorite titles of the year. Each of the games in the poll was assigned a point value based on the voting of the developers. Ultimately, the end result was the poll deciding to give Spider-Man PS4 game of the year. The game is certainly in good company; the developer’s choices in this poll have a surprising number of Western games in the mix. Here are the top ten games according to the voting of over one hundred Japanese game developers:

  1. Spider-Man
  2. Monster Hunter: World
  3. Detroit: Become Human
  4. Red Dead Redemption 2
  5. God of War
  6. Octopath Traveler
  7. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
  8. Fortnite
  9. Conan Exiles
  10. Splatoon 2

PlayStation 4 titles certainly dominate this list. That isn’t really a surprise considering the long-standing popularity of Sony’s consoles in its home country of Japan. The popularity of the console and the overall quality of the game is what likely led to the decision to vote Spider-Man PS4 game of the year. Not every developer decided on the game for the number one spot, but a few notable luminaries from the industry nonetheless chose it as their top pick. Toshimichi Mori (Blazblue), Keisuke Kikuchi (Atelier), and Kazutaka Kodaka (Danganronpa) all cast their #1 vote to make Spider-Man PS4 game of the year.

It’s certainly interesting to see what Japanese developers thought of this year’s releases! Spider-Man didn’t win anything at this year’s The Game Awards despite several nominations, so Insomniac Games is surely taking a measure of solace in this recent news from their colleagues in the East. It seems that New York City’s beloved wall-crawler has more than his fair share of international appeal!
