Persona 5 R Confirmed, More Info Coming In March

What appears to be a new version of the latest game in the Persona series, Persona 5 R, has been announced by Atlus. But what it is, exactly, won’t be revealed until March.

On December 30, Atlus posted a short video on their channel, which you can see below. It features shots of the Shibuya area frequently seen in the game, but not much else. The video then ends noting that more information on Persona 5 R will be revealed in the spring.

It seems that developer Atlus was preparing for a Persona related announcement in recent days. Their website recently underwent a new design, with something called “P5R” spotted within the site, tough there were not much details on what P5R was at the time.

There had been rumors for a while that a new version of Persona 5, similar to Persona 4 Golden, was in development. Rumors also seem to point to a release on Nintendo Switch, with Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai recently visiting Atlus’ offices to talk about his love for the series.

The speculation of a Switch port also comes as main character Joker has been announced as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which was announced last month at the Video Game Awards. There’s no indication of when he will be released, but he will come complete with a new stage and five music tracks from the Persona series.

Joker will also be a playable character in the upcoming remaster of Atlus’ puzzle series Catherine, titled Catherine: Full Body. It will also feature other characters seen in Persona 5.

There has been no confirmation about what Persona 5 R is, nor is there any indication of what systems it may be released for, yet the 5R/VR possibility has also been mooted on Reddit in recent days.

Persona 5 was released in 2016 to wide praise, averaging a 93 on Metacritic. It was later released worldwide in April of 2017.
