The new HP Omen 15 laptop was revealed at CES 2019 this week, and with the world’s first 240Hz laptop screen, it could reach up to 8 times the console FPS limit. This is made possible by a 15-inch 1080p G-Sync TN panel, as well as an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q GPU.
This is the first and only gaming laptop available with such a high refresh rate, with previous models of the HP Omen 15 limited to only 144Hz. This build makes the HP Omen 15 ideal for esports players, with incredibly high refresh rates enabling a greater twitch shooter style of gameplay. However, this won’t be the only gaming laptop powered by an Nvidia GeForce RTX GPU, as Nvidia recently announced that more than 40+ upcoming laptops will be powered with their tech.
The updated model is also built with a 2.2GHz 8th generation Intel Core-i7 8750H “Coffee Lake” six-core CPU and 16GB of RAM. A 128GB SSD and 1TB 7200rpm SATA drive will provide plenty of storage, and access to upgrade both the RAM and storage is available. The machine ports have also been moved to the rear of the model, shifting wires away from the mouse area for an improved freedom of movement.
Prices for the HP Omen 15 will start at $1,369 when the 60Hz model arrives in February 2019, for those eager to get their hands on a newer model. The superior 240Hz laptop will reportedly become available in July this year, but no price was announced for this model at CES 2019.
Compared to the tablet-like HP Spectre Folio that was announced last October, which could only achieve up to 40 FPS for a price tag of $1,300, the new HP Omen 15 model looks to be industry-leading. We’ll see more of the new 240Hz model, and whether it is equipped to consistently reach 240 FPS, when it releases in July later this year.
