Samsung Galaxy S10

The Samsung Galaxy S10 range is ready for next-gen WiFi

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10 lineup boasts the capabilities of making the most of a WiFi 6 router, which is great news for the half a dozen people who own that oh-so-rare router already. There’s good news for those of us still slumming it with standard WiFi but still looking to pick up a new Samsung, being that the new tech in the range should at least leave you in a position where you’ll be able to make the most of WiFi 6 if and when it becomes more readily available.

Droid Life spotted the inclusion of a WiFi 6 ready chip in three of the new S10 phones. in documents handed in to the FCC by Samsung. Apparently, the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, and a cheaper model, which Droid Life suggests will be called the Galaxy S10E, will all come with support for the new styled WiFi.

This “next-gen” WiFi will apparently allow users to split up data usage, meaning there’s less chance of congestion when using multiple gadgets, while phones with support, like this S10 range, will benefit from longer battery life.

These benefits should extend over to those of you looking to make the most of your games on Android as well, as long as you’re connected to a WiFi 6 router. A more diverse data stream should mean that you avoid lagging in games, that longer battery life should mean you’re not stuck having to play and charge your phone at the same time, and obviously you’ll benefit from a faster download speed. Apparently, the WiFi 6 routers can offer up to 10 gigabits per second in its bandwidth. Though it’s more than likely that anyone who buys into the new gear won’t see speeds anywhere near that quick.

Engadget reckons that the part of the phone that’ll make the WiFi 6 support tick is the Qualcomm’s WiFi 6-ready Snapdragon 855 chip, which will feature in the majority of the latest Android phones that arrive this year. The Samsung S10 range will be showcased on February 20, when we’ll see what that third, mysterious model is.
