The Mortal Kombat 11 story trailer has dropped! We’re just a few weeks away from the latest entry in the Mortal Kombat franchise and the fine folks at NetherRealm Studios have put together an excellent video showcase of some of the game’s more dynamic cinematic sequences. Although this is a story trailer, we do get to see a bit of gameplay as well (mainly in the way of finishing moves and light combat).
The first moments of the Mortal Kombat 11 story trailer open with Kronika talking about how Raiden’s actions in the past have threatened her “work” across the various realms. As such, she has done some timey-wimey stuff and brought together heroes and villains from across space and time to fight it out in a brand new action-packed tournament. Both sides of this conflict have their allies, and the good guys of the franchise will once again have to contend with the mighty Shao Khan.
After a bit more exposition, the trailer cuts to some intense action scenes with an awful lot of gunfire including Kano with a freakin’ minigun because why not. Raiden is seen addressing the Elder Gods and Sonya Blade highlights the threat of a Netherrealm army on the other worlds in the multiverse. Thankfully, the good guys also have a fair few fighters on their side to balance things out. The last few moments of the trailer focus on showing off some of the finishers in the newest Mortal Kombat game.
The people at NetherRealm Studios have certainly put a lot of work into making the game look great. The in-engine cutscenes of today are comparable to the pre-rendered cutscenes from five years ago; indeed, the totality of the trailer looks positively stunning. That’s not too bad for a game running on Unreal Engine 3! You can watch the Mortal Kombat 11 story trailer for yourself below.
