Apex Legends Ninja stream reportedly cost EA $1 million

An Apex Legends Ninja stream reportedly cost Electronic Arts a cool $1 million. A source familiar with the arrangement stated that Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, one of the world’s most popular streamers (and well-known for his Fortnite gameplay) was among a handful of selected professionals who were approached by EA to promote their newest foray into the battle royale genre.

Both Electronic Arts and Ninja have declined to comment to Reuters about this deal. We can’t say for certain if the Apex Legends stream really did cost EA a million bucks. That said, it’s a pretty cheap price for primo access to millions of Twitch followers familiar with the genre. Odds are, Ninja’s short stint with the game helped bump up the game’s popularity; Apex Legends has crossed 50 million players and shows no signs of stopping. So far, Apex Legends has amassed one-quarter of the userbase that Fortnite currently boasts.

Apex Legends is currently getting ready to launch their Battle Pass and start Season 1. Rumored new characters were leaked by dataminers earlier in the week, but Respawn Entertainment stepped in and cautioned players about the possibility of future legends. “We know this stuff is fun to dig up and speculate about, but you should not treat any of that info as a source of truth,” said Respawn Entertainment Community Manager Jay “Jayfresh” Frechette. “There’s stuff in there that is very old, or things we’ve tried in the past and cut–remember our design process is to prototype and play lots of ideas–and some of it may be things we’re still building for Apex Legends.”

The Apex Legends Ninja stream was undoubtedly a boon for the game’s player count. Odds are, we’ll probably see another batch of promotional streams come out again sometime in the future. That will probably be whenever Respawn Entertainment actually gets around to launching the Battle Pass. Fingers crossed that we won’t have to wait too long.
