Mortal Kombat 11 Shang Tsung is the game’s first DLC character

As the full roster of Mortal Kombat 11 slowly gets trickled out up until the game’s release date next month, it was only a matter of time before the first DLC characters would start being announced too. We already knew about Shao Kahn, who is a DLC reward for players who pre-order the game, and will presumably be available to buy too. However, we now know that the other major villain of the Mortal Kombat series will also be paid additional content, as Mortal Kombat 11 Shang Tsung has been confirmed as the game’s first DLC fighter.

Developer Netherrealm had suggested previously that Shang Tsung would feature in Mortal Kombat 11, but now we’ve finally got some information about the popular villain. As mentioned, he will be the game’s first confirmed paid DLC fighter, part of the 6 DLC fighters previously confirmed. This suggests he will not feature in the game’s story campaign, however his reveal trailer at Chicago’s C2E2 event showed that players will at least be able to meet him in the new version of The Krypt.

The other notable fact about Mortal Kombat 11 Shang Tsung is that he will be voiced by veteran actor Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, who played Shang Tsung in the first live-action Mortal Kombat movie from 1995, directed by Paul WS Anderson (before he went on to helm the Resident Evil movie series). This version of Shang Tsung will be an older version of the character, who was the main villain of the very first Mortal Kombat. He didn’t really appear in Mortal Kombat X, so this will be the character’s first playable appearance since 2011.

No price for the Mortal Kombat 11 Shang Tsung DLC has been announced as of yet. The event also marked the reveal of Noob Saibot, another long-running character from the series who hasn’t had an appearance since Mortal Kombat 9 eight years ago. You can check out the trailer for him below.
