Assassin’s Creed Unity free on the Uplay Store, Ubisoft donating over $500,000 to Notre-Dame restoration

You can get Assassin’s Creed Unity free on the Uplay Store for a limited time. Ubisoft has made the game available to everyone for free on their own digital distribution service Uplay following the recent tragic fire at the Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral. Furthermore, the company is donating €500,000 to the restoration project that is currently underway.

If you haven’t had the pleasure of playing Assassin’s Creed Unity, it’s set in France during the late 1700s in a tumultuous period for the nation. Players take on the role of Amo Dorian, one of the many historical Assassins who have been fighting a centuries-long war against the Templars. The Notre-Dame cathedral forms a central location in the game and had been painstakingly recreated by the team behind the game over the course of development.

A news post on Ubisoft’s website states that the company will be making Assassin’s Creed Unity free on Uplay so that all players can enjoy the Notre-Dame cathedral in a fashion.

The real-world cathedral had been undergoing renovations before a fire erupted and caused severe damage to one of France’s most prominent historical monuments. A number of companies and private citizens have been collecting money to fund the restoration of the cathedral and Ubisoft has elected to chip in €500,000 ($565,122.50) to the cause. The company is also encouraging fans to consider making a donation to the restoration effort themselves.

Assassin’s Creed Unity will be available on the Uplay store at no cost for a short time, but it won’t be the only deal that players can get in the coming days; the DLC is also available at heavy discounts. Players can grab the Revolutionary Armaments Pack for $0.90 (retail price: $2.99) and the Secrets of the Revolution DLC for $2.10 (retail price: $6.99). You can pick up Assassin’s Creed Unity free over on the Uplay Store until April 25, 2019, at 3:00 AM EST.
