Overwatch Havana map now live on PTR

Coinciding with the Storm Rising Archives event, there is a new Overwatch Havana map that just hit the PTR. This Cuban map is where the aforementioned Archives event also takes place. Since it is on the PTR, the map is only on PC but will hit consoles and the live servers within a few weeks.

The Overwatch Havana map is an Escort map, meaning that one team has to escort a payload to the end of the map while the defending team tries to stop them. Dorado, Junkertown, and Rialto are just a few maps that are examples of this game type. Rialto was another map that came to the game through the last Archives event. This shows somewhat of a pattern of Blizzard making a map for an event and then slightly tweaking it for its regular default modes, which is quite efficient.

The tour of the map in the trailer showcases the areas seen in the event, with the highlights being the distillery and castle. Blizzard shared some details on the map in its patch notes:

“Begin your trip at the Taller de Sebastián, where the classic cars that line Havana’s bustling streets stop for refueling and repair. Escort a truck of rum barrels on the sun-drenched cobblestone roads, fighting off those who try to stop you. As you make your way, duck into a colorful building to escape enemy fire and savor the impressive flavors of Havana at La Cocina de Miranda or Café del Sol. Battle your opponents through the alleys until you reach the Don Rumbotico rum distillery, a once little-known local treasure that has recently earned international acclaim. Finally, guide the jalopy through the distillery to its destination at the Havana Sea Fort, a historical landmark recently purchased by an anonymous financial group and closed to the public.”

We don’t know exactly when the map will hit the live servers and consoles but we can look at the other maps for clues. The Busan map came to the PTR on August 22, 2018 and then the live servers on September 12, 2018. Paris came to the PTR on January 30, 2019 before coming to the live servers on February 20, 2019. This three-week pattern means we could see the Overwatch Havana map release date being May 9 or somewhere around there.
