Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered was released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC back in July 2018. Now, the Nintendo Switch is getting its own release of the enhanced version of Red Faction Guerrilla. Along with some the additions featured on the other console platforms, the Switch is getting some of its own unique features. Rather than original creators Volition, the Nintendo Switch version is being ported by developers Kaiko.
Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered will launch on the Nintendo Switch on July 2 for a price of $29.99 (£26.99). The headlines features of the Switch edition include the option to run the game in “Performance” or “Quality” mode, likely giving the player a choice between frame rate and resolution. The Switch version adds optional motion controls for the handheld mode to provide another way of aiming in the game. Re-Mars-tered on Switch also features some changes typical of modern remasters. The game will include reworked textures and specular maps. Other graphical updates included are improved shadow rendering, improved lighting, reworked shaders, and postprocessing.
For those jumping into Red Faction Guerrilla for the first time with this Re-Mars-tered edition, the game follows up 50 years on after the original Red Faction. Players control a member of the Red Faction movement, fighting against the Earth Defense Force. The game itself features open world combat, destructible environments, and a variety of weapons and vehicles.
The speculation about a Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered Switch edition has died down over recent months. But, shortly after the release of the PC version of the game last year, eagle-eyed players discovered Nintendo Switch icons within the game files. The icons included player control prompts styled in the form of the Switch interface.
Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered received a 3/5 rating in the GameRevolution review when it was released last year. The release led to discussions about the era of destruction-based games and if they lived up to the hype.
