Hopoo Games has announced that the Risk of Rain 2 release date is on track for 2020. The multiplayer roguelike, which recently made the transition from 2D to 3D, has been a massive hit on Steam since its launch into Early Access. Now the developers have laid out a window for its full release along with some hints for what we can expect to see in terms of new content in the coming months.
“It is really important for us to have transparency with our amazing early access community,” said Hopoo Games co-founder Paul Morse in a press release from Gearbox Publishing. “We are sharing this forecast so players know what to look forward to and what the team is working towards in making Risk of Rain 2 the best game of its kind. That’s only possible with the input and feedback we get from our players.”
As part of that transparency, Hopoo Games has stated that the Risk of Rain 2 release date will be sometime in Spring 2020. Moreover, the developers have released an Early Access roadmap that will detail upcoming features. Risk of Rain 2 1.0 is expected to have 10 characters, 10 stages, a dozen bosses, and over 100 items. After that’s done, the devs will get to work on delivering “a true ending and boss fight to match”, giving players a penultimate challenge to conquer in a game that’s already pretty darn tough.
Those features are still a ways off, though. Thankfully, there’s plenty of content planned before the Risk of Rain 2 release date. Simply put, we’ll be getting more — more bosses, more levels, more items, and localization. The Summer Update should feature the debut of Skills 2.0 and the Winter update is expected to bring “Artifacts 2.0”.
Although the first Risk of Rain was a relatively small indie title, Hopoo Games has scaled things up significantly with the sequel thanks to backing from Gearbox Publishing. It seems like the devs are confident that they’ll be able to meet the Risk of Rain 2 release date of Spring 2020. In the meantime, you can buy the game right now on Steam for $19.99 or your regional equivalent.
