The A Plague Tale: Innocence Sean Bean trailer has dropped following the launch of this hotly-anticipated game, and boy howdy is it rough to get through. While Sean Bean is known on the Internet for his penchant for playing characters with a mild case of dead-ness, he is also an accomplished dramatic actor (including the requisite Shakespeare experience). He’s taken these talents and used them to deliver a beautiful rendition of a poem that certainly fits the theme of the game.
If you haven’t yet played the game (and honestly, you’re missing out!), A Plague Tale: Innocence tells the tale of Amicia and Hugo De Rune in medieval France. The plague is running rampant and the Inquisition is out in force; the two of them must do everything they can to flee the watchful eyes of the Inquisition while avoiding the perilous environment that surrounds them.
A beautiful rendition of William Blake’s The Little Boy Lost is delivered in the A Plague Tale: Innocence Sean Bean trailer, a poem that perfectly fits the theme of the journey undertaken by the de Rune siblings:
Father, father, where are you going
O do not walk so fast.
Speak father, speak to your little boy
Or else I shall be lost,
The night was dark no father was there
The child was wet with dew.
The mire was deep, & the child did weep
And away the vapor flew.
The touching poem is part of Mr. Blake’s 18th-century book Songs of Innocence, a collection of short poems that were intended to be easily read by children. Thankfully, this poem is followed by The Little Boy Found which has a somewhat happier end than its predecessor.
While Sean Bean is well known as an actor on the film and stage, he’s also recently dipped his toe into the world of video games; his most recent role was playing an Elusive Target in Hitman 2. If you don’t yet already own the game, you can get it for the PC via Steam, PS4 via the PlayStation Store, and Xbox One via the Microsoft Store for $44.99–$49.99 or your regional equipment depending on your platform.
