Code Vein network test dates announced

Bandai Namco has finally revealed the dates for the Code Vein network test. The beta test for the game’s online play lets prospective vampires in on May 30.

The company opened applications for the closed network test last Wednesday. Any prospective vampires who haven’t signed up can still do so, as long as they’re on either PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. Sadly, players on PC will have to sit this one out. Bandai Namco likely doesn’t want any dataminers exploring the game’s files during the beta test. Players who do get accepted into the closed beta will be notified by Bandai Namco through email.

The closed beta starts at 11:00 PM Eastern Time on May 30 for players in the United States and, 5:00 AM CEST on May 31 for players in Europe. Players will then be able to participate in the test until 3:00 AM Eastern Time in the United States and 9:00 AM  CEST in Europe on June 3.

Players will be able to create their own character when the test begins. Afterwards, the test will have these players play cooperatively through one of the game’s dungeons.

As stated in our recent preview, the emphasis on cooperative play seems to what differentiates Code Vein‘s from similar Souls-type games. The title even lets players bring an AI partner along whenever they play solo. With this in mind, a lot is probably riding on this upcoming network test. The kind of feedback Bandai Namco receives from the test could affect when they decides to actually announce the game’s release date.

Of course, the game’s anime-inspired looks and bigger emphasis on story are the other things that make Code Vein unique. The approach is similar to how their God Eater games took on the Monster Hunter formula. At the very least, this formula should attract the interest of the same kind of players who play the former.

That said, if Code Vein wishes to surpass its inspirations in a way that God Eater hasn’t, then it needs to get a number of things right. Getting its online cooperative to work trouble free is definitely one of them.
