Game of Thrones creator George RR Martin is consulting on a Japanese video game that is rumored to be revealed at E3 2019. According to reports, the game will be developed by Dark Souls and Bloodborne creator From Software, with the author collaborating with the studio’s president Hidetaka Miyazaki to bring it to life.
George RR Martin confirmed his involvement with a video game project in a blog post discussing his plans now that Game of Thrones has wrapped up its final season. The author, whose fantasy novel series A Song of Fire and Ice were adapted into the hit HBO show, confirmed he’s working on five new TV shows and short films along with an upcoming game.
He wrote:
“And me? I’m still here, and I’m still busy. As a producer, I’ve got five shows in development at HBO (some having nothing whatsoever to do with the world of Westeros), two at Hulu, one on the History Channel. I’m involved with a number of feature projects, some based upon my own stories and books, some on material created by others. There are these short films I am hoping to make, adaptations of classic stories by one of the most brilliant, quirky, and original writers our genre has ever produced. I’ve consulted on a video game out of Japan.”
Sources reportedly close to the project told Gematsu that From Software is referring to the game as “GR,” and that it is to be an open-world game with horseback riding, with players venturing through various kingdoms and obtaining different abilities by way of defeating those kingdoms’ leaders.
It will also reportedly be published by Bandai Namco, with it allegedly set to be revealed during E3 2019 in June. While George RR Martin nor From Software has formally announced their collaboration, rumors have been circulating for a while now suggesting the author is working with the Dark Souls developer. Either way, it seems like all will be revealed at E3.
