E3 2019 | Blair Witch Game Release Date Announced, View Debut Trailer

One of the many surprises during Microsoft’s E3 2019 press conference was the Blair Witch game release date and trailer. The previously unannounced title is set to take place in the mysterious and dense Blackwood Forest, as players attempt to figure out the game’s mystery. They won’t be entirely alone, as they have a dog companion named Bullet that will aid them in their journey.

The supernatural horror film The Blair Witch Project was originally released in 1999 and received critical praise for how it was directed and edited by the duo of Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez. Its innovative framing was that it was found footage and based upon true events, even though that wasn’t the case. It was made on a very modest budget of just $60,000 and wound up being a huge box office hit as it brought in nearly $250 million during its theatrical run. Its sequel wasn’t nearly as successful, but it helped establish a new horror subgenre that Cloverfield and Paranormal Activity used to great success.

Blair Witch game release date revealed

Based upon the hit 1999 found-footage horror film The Blair Witch Project and its recent sequel, 2016’s Blair Witch, it looks to deliver plenty of scares. One of the central gameplay mechanics is that players will use a camcorder to record their journey. This isn’t actually the first game in the series as three PC titles were released by Ritual Entertainment nearly two decades ago.

Not much is known about who is developing the upcoming Blair Witch game but it’s confirmed to release on August 30, 2019 for Xbox One. The description for the horror game reveals that it will be a “first-person, story-driven psychological horror game based on the cinematic lore of Blair Witch.”

Other platforms haven’t been confirmed at time of posting.
