Following the game’s announcement late last week (and also following the datamine leak last month), the question of the Baldur’s Gate 3 release date has been tackled during the PC Gaming E3 2019 conference. Developer Larian Studios has stated that this is the “biggest game that [the studio] has ever done,” with the team having to be tripled in size to manage the required workload. Confirmed supported platforms include PC and Google Stadia.
After the success of Divinity: Original Sin 2, Larian Studios was tasked with creating the next Baldur’s Gate game. The teaser trailer showed “a return of a malevolent presence to Baldur’s Gate, intent on devouring it from the inside out, corrupting everything that remains in the Forgotten Realms.”
The enemy threat in Baldur’s Gate 3 are the Mind Flayers. These infect a chosen host, feeding on that person’s brain before growing and exploding out of the host’s body. In addition to being brutally disgusting, the Mind Flayers are capable of mind control.
The Mind Flayers’ aim is to restore their empire, with the help of Nautiloid ships. These conch-shaped aircraft are able to travel between worlds and the Astral Plane.
Hardcore fans who want to be optimally prepared for Baldur’s Gate 3 may want to make a note of September 17, as that is when the game’s tabletop prequel, Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus, is set to launch. This is an upcoming 5th edition sourcebook on of the Dungeons and Dragons game.
During last week’s reveal, we got to see a man being brutalized from the inside out, in a bloody “uncut teaser announcement” trailer. You can watch it below!
Disappointingly, there isn’t yet a confirmed Baldur’s Gate 3 release date, despite fans hoping that the PC Gaming E3 2019 presentation would be the place for it to finally be unveiled. “When it’s ready” is all we’re getting for now.
