Untitled Goose Game Epic Games Store exclusivity announced

An Untitled Goose Game Epic Games Store exclusivity deal has been announced. Developer House House has stated that they are going to be bringing their adorable game about a mischievous goose exclusively to Epic Games’ digital distribution service for the PC and Mac — at least for the near future.

“Goose news!” began a chain of tweets on the developer’s official Twitter account. “Alongside its console launch later this year on Nintendo Switch, our Untitled Goose Game will be making its Mac and Windows debut through the Epic Games Store.”

“A little context: House House is a small independent studio that has been operating on a tight budget for years, so a partnership like this gives us a means to make games sustainably for the foreseeable future — in an industry like ours, this kind of stability is huge,” the Twitter thread continued. “We love Itchio and Steam, and are happy to say we’ll be bringing our goose to these platforms in future. And to reiterate, it’ll also be available on Switch from day one.”

“Thanks, as always, for your support[,]” the thread concluded. “[W]orking on this game is a delight, and we’re so excited to share it with you.”

Predictably, more than a few people were upset about the Untitled Goose Game Epic Games Store exclusivity. Unlike many other such announcements, however, the developer in this case has more or less stated that the partnership has brought them “stability” in a very tough arm of the entertainment industry.

It’s a bit of an open secret that the Epic Games Store likely pays developers for exclusivity on their new digital distribution service; XCOM spiritual successor Phoenix Point was reportedly paid $2.25 million thanks to mandated financial disclosures and a bit of maths on the part of ResetEra.

The Untitled Goose Game Epic Games Store deal may be disappointing to some, but the exclusivity period certainly won’t last forever. You’ll be able to get it whenever the heck the developer decides its done for the PC and Mac via the Epic Games Store and on the Nintendo Switch.
