WTF. Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 has been announced during the Nintendo Direct E3 2019 showcase. While the Breath of the Wild sequel release date hasn’t yet been announced, we’ve had a pretty decent-sized teaser trailer to pore over, and it’s one that includes a team-up between Link and Zelda.
The shock announcement, which many would have incorrectly guessed as being a hefty slice of Breath of the Wild DLC, appeared during the very last minutes of the Nintendo Direct at E3 2019. The game even teases the return of what looks like Ganon, with Link and Zelda looking over his decripit body at his final resting place. As they begin to approach, a burst of energy enamates from the Zelda Big Bad, his eyes turn red, and he springs to life.
The trailer ends with the following message regarding Breath of the Wild 2 (or whatever it’ll be called): The sequel to Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild is now in development. Simple, sweet, and to the point. Just what you want from a surprise E3 2019 reveal, eh?
Assumingly, it’s coming out on Nintendo Switch, though no release date, or even the broad strokes of a release window has been released. Expect Holiday 2020 at the absolute earliest. The game will be the first direct sequel involving the same version of link since Majora’s Mask on Nintendo 64 or, Phantom Hourglass on the Nintendo 3DS
You can watch the Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 trailer below, but the darker aesthetic should instantly intrigue players. It’s clear from the pan out that we’re still in Hyrule, but this looks like a much darker, Majora’s Mask-esque take on the world of the Hero of Time.
