Jonathan Blow's outspoken attitude towards game development and smash-hit success with Braid has catapulted him to PlayStation 4 development with The Witness, a puzzle game with some open-world-looking aspects. Certainly the art style looks interesting and lush, full of color and sharp lines, but exactly how do you play the game?
Blow talks for a while in this video, but then we finally get another look at gameplay. Some of the environments look drop dead gorgeous, but what purpose do all of the puzzle panels serve in opening the world to the player? You can see a sort of line-maze activating different contraptions around the world, including a massive mirror display, but then multiple-panel puzzles, walkway panels, and the game's massive island are shown and I'm lost again.
Can you figure out how it is you play The Witness from the meager clips we've been shown? What could the premise possibly be? At this point I give up. Maybe we'll never know. Or maybe we'll know at E3 2013, where GameRevolution will be reporting live.
