The first poster and some new stills from the upcoming The Witcher Netflix TV series have been released. These images give fans their first look at Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri as they appear in the show.
The streaming company revealed the poster and stills in a series of tweets. The new poster shows Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, facing towards the horizon, and gives the tagline, “The worst monsters are the ones we create.”
The stills themselves show of more of the former Superman star’s take on Geralt, showing a more natural shave then when he last played the Man of Steel. Additionally, the armor he wears bears some resemblance to the Viper School armor Geralt wore at the start of The Witcher 3.
Interestingly enough however, the stills show him only carrying one sword. Witchers are supposed to carry two swords, a regular steel one, and a silver one used only for monsters. Perhaps the show will explain more of this when it airs.
Aside from Cavill, the stills give fans their first look at Anya Chalotra as Yennefer and Freya Allan as Ciri. The former’s look seems to hew close to The Witcher 3, similar to Cavill’s Geralt.
Allan’s Ciri, however, looks a quite different. This is to be expected considering that how much older Ciri is in that game than she is in the books.
In addition to these reveals, Netflix also launched an official Twitter channel for the show.
The Witcher on Netflix, which has Daredevil producer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich as its showrunner, will supposedly debut on the service sometime later this year. Henry Cavill has already confirmed on Instagram that the first season of the show is done filming. Perhaps Netflix will finally reveal the show’s actual release date when it brings it to the San Diego Comic Con, where the company has a panel scheduled for July 19.
