witcher 3 switch release date

The Witcher 3 Switch release date revealed in Gamescom 2019 trailer

Ever since the port was first revealed E3 2019, Switch players have been eagerly wanting to know when The Witcher 3 would arrive on Nintendo’s portable hybrid. At Gamescom Opening Night Live, fans finally got the answer they were waiting for. A new trailer revealed The Witcher 3 Switch release date — October 15, 2019.

Alongside the release date, the new trailer showcases the many locations players can visit as Geralt of Rivia in the Witcher 3. This includes the new area of Toussaint, added in the game’s Blood and Wine expansion. Of course, familiar places such as Skellige, Novigrad, and of course Velen, are also featured in the trailer. All this on top many of the things players can do, including race horses, play Gwent, and even find love.

Since the Switch features less powerful hardware than the other platforms that the Witcher 3 has been released on, the port obviously doesn’t look as good as them. That said, for a Switch version still looks pretty good for what CD Projekt Red has to work with. Towns and cities like Novigrad still feature a decent amount of NPCs on screen. Meanwhile, outside of the city, the game still manages a pretty decent draw distance.

All this happens while the game seems to run at a smooth framerate. Though the trailer may not represent actual performance, CD Projekt Red already promised that the port would prioritize having a smooth frame rate. While this does mean that The Witcher 3 on the Switch has to make some compromises then reach this goal, what we’re seeing in the trailer seems to indicate that it won’t be too compromised. When the game arrives on Switch, in a couple of months, it looks like players will have a decent enough version of this now classic open world RPG on their hands.
