Get a Skyrim mod for real life with these candles that capture the scents of the game

If you’re tired of exploring the sprawling worlds of Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls without sniffing the scents of each village or dungeon, now you can use candles to make your own Skyrim mod for real life.

Reddit user Beyondintodarkness has just achieved his dream of “porting Skyrim to your nose.” It sounds like a daunting task, and it took him three years of trial and error to fully accomplish. Still, he managed to do so before Bethesda even announced the next chapter in The Elder Scrolls series.

The pack is called “The Skyrim Collection” and comes with 12 immersive candles. You can purchase it on sale from Etsy for $200 right now, with the price normally being $240. The scents are meant to mix the more prominent factors from each area, such as flora, fauna, fresh water, fire, or ocean.

The gaming candles pack comes with one smell for each Skyrim hold, one for the dungeons, one for the caves, and one for indoor areas. You have scents for the following locations:

  • The Reach
  • Caves
  • Falkreath
  • Indoors
  • Whiterun
  • Winterhold
  • Dungeons
  • The Pale
  • The Rift
  • Haafingar
  • Hjaalmarch
  • Eastmarch

There doesn’t seem to be a candle for the sweet smell of a bucket on the head of an NPC, though.

Just light a candle and let the scent sink in, and the creator suggests that you blow out the candle when you cross hold borders, so that the faint smell lingers on your clothes. Sounds like the greatest Skyrim mod for real life that you can get, and it is likely to tempt players into starting a new run on this RPG.

This isn’t a new idea, however; Stardew Valley and The Witcher candles are available for purchase as well. Perhaps some major studios will see a great business opportunity here, and release special editions featuring candle packs?
