Skyrim Mod Adds Shadow of Mordor Nemesis System So You Can Have a Mudcrab Rival

A new Skyrim mod inspired by the Nemesis system in Shadow of Mordor allows you to make rivals out of dragons, skeletons, and mudcrabs. Now available on Nexus Mods, the “Shadow of Skyrim – Nemesis and Alternative Death System” mod turns any enemy that defeats you into a nemesis who can steal your coin purse and use your weapons and armor against you.

How the Shadow of Mordor Skyrim mod works

Skyrim Mod

With this mod turned on, if an enemy happens to defeat your character in combat, that enemy becomes a nemesis clearly identified by a new title. Instead of dying, you will respawn in a suitable location like a local jail if you died in a city and be given a special quest to track down your new rival. Killing said rival, however, will be harder as you will be hit with a situational debuff, like the “Off-Balance” debuff that makes you more susceptible to knockdowns if you are killed with a power attack. Your rival will also be given a contextual buff in turn, such as a Stormcloak getting a “Bear Warden” buff that gives him or her a bear companion.

Fortunately, finding and defeating your nemesis removes your debuff and gives you a typically lesser version of the buff. The mod allows you to have up to five rivals at a time and earn up to five combined debuffs or buffs. To keep things fair and make sure the game doesn’t break, any enemy that is essential, summoned, or related to important quests cannot be made into a nemesis. Additionally, only enemies up to 25 levels above your character can become a rival, though this can be disabled at your leisure.

You will need both the SkyUI and SKSE/SKSEVR mods to install Shadow of Skyrim. The mod creator, sycionix, notes that there is a bug where an enemy in a vanilla Random Encounter might become a rival by accident, and so recommends that you turn off the Nemesis Take and Use Items option until this is fixed. Sycionix plans on adding more nemesis titles, debuffs, buffs, and mechanics as future content. He also ensures that this mod is only inspired by Shadow of Mordor and is based on gameplay systems he has made himself.

In other news, the MultiVersus player count has passed the 10 million mark, and Jon Bernthal’s future as The Punisher in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been revealed.
