Early this year, Capcom thrilled gaming veterans and newcomers alike with a full remake of Resident Evil 2. With that game getting GOTY buzz and a nomination at this year’s Game Awards, it only makes sense that rumors show Capcom moving ahead with another remake of the game’s direct sequel. Originally released on the original PlayStation, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is a very different type of horror. Considering the popularity of Mr. X is RE2‘s rebirth, a Resident Evil 3 Remake but it could be perfect for current consoles.
The original report came from prominent YouTuber Spawn Wave, who broke the story regarding Elden Ring before E3 earlier this year. Since then, Eurogamer has backed up the rumor themselves, with many others coming forward on ResetEra to call the game an “open industry secret.” Where there’s smoke, there’s fire, so it seems like a sure bet that players will be able to take on Nemesis on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC in the near future.

The only real question surrounding Resident Evil 3 Remake is when we’ll see the game’s announcement. If we’re looking at an early 2020 date, The Game Awards would make the most sense. Especially with RE2‘s nomination for Game of the Year. We also have the rumored PlayStation 5 reveal event and E3 if Capcom is looking at a date later in the year. Who knows, Resident Evil 3 could be a next-gen launch title that also releases on current platforms.
It’s also likely that Capcom will continue the trend, especially considering their penchant to release Resident Evil 4 on every platform going back to the PlayStation 2 days. Could we see a reworked version of the most popular game in the franchise that makes the jump fully to next-gen? Will Code Veronica also get the remake treatment before that, or will it be skipped? Only Capcom knows, but that might not be the case for long.
