Another day, another Resident Evil 3 remake rumor. This time, a U.K. retailer reportedly listed the the game with an early 2020 release date. As of writing, the page remains up, but the proposed Resident Evil 3 remake release date is no longer specified.
According to GamingBolt, a Base.com “Resident Evil 3 Remake” listing initially included a release date of March 31, 2020. The listing now says the product is currently unavailable and does not give any date. While that March 31 release date could have been a placeholder, March 31 is a Tuesday, which is the day of the week that most video game releases fall on. Capcom has been releasing games on Fridays in recent years, including the Resident Evil 2 remake, but previous titles such as Resident Evil 7 were released on Tuesdays, so perhaps Capcom could be going back to that kind of release schedule if this date is accurate at all.

Earlier this month, the existence of a Resident Evil 3 remake seemed to be officially confirmed when a Twitter user shared a Resident Evil 3 cover art leak on the PSN. The PSN leak also revealed the final name of the Left 4 Dead-like Resident Evil Resistance, previously known only as Project Resistance. Fans had previously speculated that elements of the RE2 remake teased an RE3 remake, but it’s surprising that one is apparently coming so soon.
Around the launch of the Resident Evil 2 remake, the game’s producer, Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, said future Resident Evil remakes could happen only if fans showed the same kind enthusiasm for them as they did for RE2. The Resident Evil 3 remake leaks seem to indicate it could have been in development before the RE2 remake launched. Capcom might also have been able to make RE3 in a shorter time span because how how some parts of Resident Evil 3 takes place within the Raccoon City Police Department, which is also where most of RE2 takes place. Recycling environments would cut down on development time.
While the Resident Evil 3 remake release date is far from confirmed, it’s likely to be officially announced soon. In fact, as reported by GamingBolt, the remake is rumored to be announced at Sony’s State of Play event tomorrow that starts at 6 AM PT.
