Resident Evil Netflix Series Description

Resident Evil Netflix series details found in now removed listing

The rumored Resident Evil Netflix series seems to be real. In a listing on the Netflix Media Center, details on the Resident Evil series were found by the Resident Evil Wiki (via the @residentevildb). Unfortunately, the listing has since been removed, but the original was captured via the Wayback Machine, and I’ve verified its veracity.

The series title on the press site is simply Resident Evil. That could be a working title, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the final name because it’s nice and confusing.

The description of the Netflix Resident Evil series is as follows:

“The town of Clearfield, MD has long stood in the shadow of three seemingly unrelated behemoths – the Umbrella Corporation, the decommissioned Greenwood Asylum, and Washington, D.C. Today, twenty-six years after the discovery of the T-Virus, secrets held by the three will start to be revealed at the first signs of outbreak.”

The original rumor concerning Netflix’s Resident Evil stated that the series would “expand” and “deepen” the mythology of the franchise. This makes it seem that unlike the movies, the Netflix series will be connected to the games.

So, what can we interpolate from the description? Well, if Resident Evil (the show) takes place 26 years after the development of the initial T-Virus strain by James Marcus on January 13, 1978, the series will be set in the year 2004. However, I’m going to go out on a limb and say whoever wrote the summary of the show wasn’t intimately familiar with the lore. Instead, they’re probably counting forward from the Raccoon City outbreak in 1998. So, the show probably takes place in 2024.

However, I’m going to backtrack on what I just said with another hypothesis. An argument could be made that the mention of Umbrella in the synopsis, and the fact the date the show takes place might be 2004, which means the series may be about the downfall of Umbrella since the timing lines up.

Regardless of when the series takes place, I’m excited to see where it’s going. The movies were a bit of a disappointment, so I’d love to see a series that plugged into franchise’s lore as the CGI movies did.
