A Fallout TV show is in the works as an Amazon Original. The show will be produced by Kilter Films (Westworld) and Amazon Studios and is the first series to come out of the nine-figure deal between the two.
This will be the first Bethesda property to make the leap to the small screen. However, a Fallout TV series is something the studio has been looking to pursue for some time.
“Over the last decade, we looked at many ways to bring Fallout to the screen. But it was clear from the moment I first spoke with Jonah and Lisa a few years ago, that they and the team at Kilter were the ones to do it right. We’re enormous fans of their work and couldn’t be more excited to work with them and Amazon Studios.” explained Bethesda Game Studios Executive Producer Todd Howard in a blog announcing the show.

Aside from the fact the show is in development, and that it’ll be produced by Amazon Studios and Kilter Films, we know nothing of the project. There’s a lot of room for the series to fit into the Fallout canon. We’ve only explored a small part of the post-apocalyptic United States. There are plenty of adventures that could be had in the wasteland.
We also don’t know what tone the Fallout TV show will have. The series has always been a bit tongue in cheek and humorous. Still, a TV adaptation might be better served taking a more serious tone. I’d love to see a series that follows from the divergence between the world of Fallout and our own (between 1945 and 1961) and the collapse of the US in 2077.
Regardless of what direction the TV show takes, it’s in good hands. Westworld is a hit, and Fallout‘s aesthetic is close enough to that series that I can’t imagine Kilter Films will get it wrong.
