Animal Crossing: New Horizons sales close to No 1 spot

Sales data shows Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the Switch’s 2nd best-seller

Animal Crossing: New Horizons sales have just crossed another major milestone: the newest Animal Crossing game is officially the number two best-selling Nintendo Switch game of all time and it shows no signs of stopping.

Nintendo has just released a new batch of financial data and it shows that the newest entry in the Animal Crossing franchise has been wildly popular: it’s sold 22.4 million units as of June 30, 2020.

What are the best-selling Nintendo Switch games?

  1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (26.74 million)
  2. Animal Crossing: New Horizons (22.40 million)
  3. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (19.99 million)
  4. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (18.60 million)
  5. Pokemon Sword and Shield (18.22 million)

Combine that with the newly-updated console sales data and we come to an astonishing fact: one out of every three Nintendo Switch owners has a copy of Animal Crossing: New Horizons (along with a copy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.)

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons sales are undeniably impressive, but they might soon claim the number one spot: it’s just 4.34 million units away from catching up to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. That game has been out for a while now and so its sales are leveling out, so we may very well see Animal Crossing become the best-selling Nintendo Switch game of all time before the year is out. Considering the constant stream of planned content for the next few years (like the new fireworks event), I wouldn’t be surprised.
