There will be Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart 60 FPS support, but it will come at a price — players will have to choose between a smooth framerate and 4K resolution.
Speaking to Famitsu, Insomniac Games confirmed that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will be able to support 60 frames per second on the PS5. Furthermore, this continuation of a beloved PlayStation franchise will also be able to run at 4K resolution, but it can’t do both.
“This work emphasizes the balance between action comfort and beautiful graphics, while allowing the player to select from two types of resolution and frame rate,” read a machine-translated quote from Insomniac’s Mike Daily in the Famitsu interview. “One is ’30FPS at 4K resolution’ and the other is ‘Lower resolution at 60FPS’. You will be able to select either of these.”
While an optional Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart 60 FPS mode is certainly welcome news, the developers don’t specify what resolution it will be running it. Will it be 1440p, 1080p, or 720p? Unfortunately, I don’t think we’ll find out for sure until Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart launches sometime in the near future.
