Pikmin 3 Wii U Nintendo eShop

Pikmin 3 Wii U version is back on the Nintendo eShop

The Pikmin 3 Wii U version has returned to the Nintendo eShop, appeasing players who were upset after it was removed following the reveal of Pikmin 3 Deluxe.

Earlier this month, Nintendo made the surprising announcement that Pikmin 3 Deluxe was in development for the Nintendo Switch and would be launching later in 2020. This was welcome news to longtime fans of the franchise, but it was followed with a somewhat unusual move: the Pikmin 3 Wii U version was removed from the Nintendo eShop.

Understandably, quite a few fans were somewhat upset after this revelation. It’s not the best look when a developer announces an updated remaster from the game and then immediately makes the original unavailable for sale.

However, this problem appears to have been resolved as reported on Reddit: the Wii U edition of Pikmin 3 is now back on the Nintendo eShop.

Pikmin 3 for the Wii U can be purchased for $19.99 or your regional equivalent — one-third of the price of the upcoming Pikmin 3 Deluxe. A demo is also available for players to try, provided that they haven’t sold their Wii U to GameStop for ten bucks and a pack of stickers.

This isn’t the first time that Nintendo has removed an older edition of the game upon the release of a remaster, either. Back in 2018, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze was announced for the Nintendo Switch. At the same time, the Wii U version of that game was removed from the Nintendo eShop. At the time of writing, it has still not yet returned to the storefront despite the Pikmin 3 Wii U version making is reappearance.

If this isn’t some kind of error, Nintendo may have listened to fans who were upset that the Wii U version of the game had been removed from sale. If you’d like to buy Pikmin 3 for yourself, you can get the Pikmin 3 Wii U version on the Nintendo eShop for $19.99 and you can pre-order Pikmin 3 Deluxe for $59.99.
