Phasmophobia Early Access period extended ghost

Phasmophobia Early Access will be extended due to its surprising popularity

The Phasmophobia Early Access period will be extended beyond its original plans, largely owing to the game’s unexpected and surprising popularity with VR gamers looking for a good scare.

Phasmophobia has been a wildly popular game ever since its launch. Players are enjoying the game’s frights with their friends and by themselves and the formula has proven popular: the game has been averaging nearly 50,000 players a day for the last month. That popularity, however, also comes with a downside.

Why the Phasmophobia Early Access period is being extended

The game’s developer “Dknighter” reveals that he originally intended the Phasmophobia Early Access period to be “short,” although he declines to mention exactly how long it would have lasted. Those plans have since gone out the window, largely due to the expectations of the tens of thousands of people playing it every day.

“[Due ]to the game’s popularity, everyone’s expectations are increased so I am going to have to reconsider my plans for the game’s future,” Dknighter told IGN.

Players hoping for new content may be disappointed to hear that the next Phasmophobia patch will largely be focused on major bug fixes. After that, however, Dknighter’s focus will shift to making new content like the new ghost that was recently added in Update 3.

“These bug fixes would usually be sent out when they are ready but, due to me having to update a lot of the game’s code, a lot of new systems need testing, so the next update will be a big stability and bug fix update,” he added. “After these bugs are fixed the new content will likely get bundled together in big updates.”

The line between a finished and unfinished game has been somewhat blurred with the increasing popularity of the Early Access development model. Dknighter has dozens of planned features in various states of progress, so there will be no shortage of gameplay changes and new content for players to enjoy. The longer Phasmophobia Early Access period means that players may have to wait longer to enjoy some of this new content, but it looks like they will ultimately get a better game as a result.
