Nintendo Switch Mario Edition is coming next month so get it while you can

The Nintendo Switch Mario Edition has been revealed, with a red and blue edition of the console set to launch soon. The announcement was made after today’s new Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury trailer, with it set to launch in time for the game’s release.

As with any new Switch variant, there is already plenty of interest, with many now wondering about its release date, price, and if it will have a limited availability similar to previous Mario-related Nintendo releases. Here’s what you need to know about the console.

Nintendo has confirmed that the release date for the red and blue Switch Mario edition will be February 12, 2021. It will cost $299.99 at retail. This is the same date as Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury‘s launch, with the console being released in time for this new release, though it won’t include a copy of the game.

Pre-orders for the console are not yet live, though will likely be available via Amazon and other stores ahead of launch. Given the continued popularity of the Switch, with the regular and Lite versions of the console still sold out across many retailers, it’s likely scalpers will also target this new Mario Edition.

Will the Nintendo Switch Mario Edition have limited availability?

Nintendo has been forcing exclusivity with its games in recent months, as both its Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection and Super Mario Bros. 35 were given limited runs until March 31, 2021. As a result, some are concerned that the same will happen with the Switch Mario Edition.

While Nintendo hasn’t stated that this will be the case, it’s likely that the console will receive a limited run regardless due to its inevitable popularity. As we’ve seen with the special edition Animal Crossing: New Horizons console, Switch variants are swiftly snapped up by buyers and rarely go back in stock. This means that if you want to get your hands on the new red and blue Switch, you’ll need to snap it up as soon as orders go live.
