Crash Bandicoot 4 is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X, and Switch with a free update

Crash Bandicoot 4 is set to release on PS5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch, with the sequel arriving on the new platforms later this year. The announcement was made by Activision today, with the company also revealing that PS4 and Xbox One owners can upgrade to the current-gen versions of the game for free.

When is the Crash 4 PS5, Xbox Series X, Switch release date?

Crash 4 will release on the new platforms on March 12, 2021. It has also been revealed that a PC version of the game will be published later this year, too, though no set release date has been confirmed for this version. It will be released on Blizzard’s Battle.net store, as is typically the case for Activision games.

The trailer for the game’s release on current-gen platforms can be viewed below:

Sony confirmed that the game will support 4K resolution at 60 FPS on PS5, with it also boasting the console’s 3D Audio. It’ll also bring DualSense wireless controller support to the game, with it also set to utilize the controller’s adaptive triggers in order to provide realistic feedback.

Speaking to the PlayStation Blog, Crash 4 developer Toys For Bob’s Creative Producer Lou Studdert explained the differences players can expect from the PS5 version of the game.

“There are several features that different players can really benefit from when playing on the PS5, but I love the native 4k resolution paired with the 60 frames per second,” Studdert said. “Seeing the amazing art and animation that the team has pulled off for this adventure presented in 4K/60 is just incredible. It’s crisp, it’s buttery smooth… it’s just outstanding.”

Crash 4 released on PS4 and Xbox One back in 2020 and was one of GameRevolution’s Games of the Year. We also called it the best Crash Bandicoot game ever in our review.
