Rumor: Dragon’s Dogma 2 will use the Resident Evil engine

While the game hasn’t been revealed yet, a new Dragon’s Dogma 2 leak has allegedly surfaced that suggests that the next game in the series is ditching the MT Framework Lost Planet engine for the Resident Evil graphics engine. The source of the leak is reliable insider Dusk Golem, who has added to the many rumors already out in the wild for the still-unannounced sequel.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 leak claims it’s using the RE Engine

Dragon's Dogma 2 RE engine

The rumor about Dragon’s Dogma 2 potentially using the RE Engine — the one behind all recent Resident Evil games — was tweeted by known industry insider Dusk Golem, who goes by @aestheticgamer1 on Twitter.

Dusk Golem says that “Dragon’s Dogma 2 100% is using the RE Engine,” and also notes that’s “not a surprising thing” and that most new Capcom games from now on will be using RE Engine. Capcom has previously stated that this would most likely be the case, and that the previous game’s MT Framework engine has been slowly phased out over the last few years.

This certainly isn’t the first leak regarding Dragon’s Dogma 2, as the game’s pretty much an open secret at this point. At the end of last year, Capcom suffered a big data breach causing a number of documents to be released to the public, with Dragon’s Dogma 2 being one of the games listed as being in development for release over the next few years — along with a Resident Evil 4 remake.

Game director Hideaki Itsuno previously revealed that he chose to make Devil May Cry 5 over Dragon’s Dogma 2, but since that game came out it seems like Itsuno returned to the Dragon’s Dogma sequel. Capcom is currently down as attending the all-digital E3 2021 in a few weeks, so it’s entirely possible that Dragon’s Dogma 2 could be revealed at the event.
