Netflix and CDPR WitcherCon reveal has us scratching our heads

Summer Game Fest 2021 is underway, and new announcements keep rolling in around the clock. The latest involves Netflix and CDPR, who shared a rather flirty exchange this morning over Twitter. Once the steam cleared, both companies revealed a brand new event called WitcherCon. Naturally, the announcement caught fans off-guard, leaving many to wonder exactly what WitcherCon is supposed to be. Is it a physical convention? When does it take place? And most importantly, will the event showcase season two of Witcher on Netflix, or the upcoming next-gen Witcher 3 upgrade?

What is WitcherCon?

What is WitcherCon?

WitcherCon is an upcoming virtual fan event organized and hosted by CD Projekt Red and Netflix. The event is set to kick off Friday, July 9, 2021 at 1 pm Eastern time. Fans will be able to watch the WitcherCon stream on both YouTube and Twitch.

The event was first teased in a series of tweets between both Netflix and CDPR. The whole exchange was… a bit unusual, to say the least, but fans knew it was leading up to something. That something, of course, was the formal WitcherCon reveal.

Will WitcherCon reveal season two of the Netflix Witcher series?

Given the company’s involvement in WitcherCon, fans can absolutely expect more teasers regarding season two of the Witcher Netflix series. However, they won’t necessarily have to wait until WitcherCon begins, as new teasers are already being posted to Twitter.

With that said, WitcherCon will certainly have more Netflix series details on offer. A press release for the event specifies “breaking news, exclusive behind the scenes and never-before-seen reveals from across The Witcher franchise.” Notably, this includes “intimate looks into the creativity and production behind [Netflix’s] live action series.”

Will CD Projekt Red reveal The Witcher 3 next-gen upgrade?

As for what’s next for Geralt’s electronic adventures, it’s hard to say. We already know that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting a next-gen upgrade for current-generation consoles. However, news about the upgrade has been in short supply.

Still, the WitcherCon details do mention big reveals across the entire franchise. We expect some mention of the next-gen upgrade, especially considering how many people are excited for it. Otherwise, we will get news about the upcoming The Witcher: Monster Slayer mobile game, plus looks at new comics and Witcher merchandise.
