Is Black Widow dead? That’s certainly the big question, and while the events of Avengers Endgame would seem to be the answer, does the Black Widow movie bring back Natasha Romanoff? The Black Widow Avengers Endgame death could possibly be reversed since death isn’t permanent for a lot of characters in the MCU, and it could certainly be changed in Natasha’s own movie. But does it? Let’s see. Black Widow spoilers follow!
Is Black Widow dead after Avengers Endgame?
Black Widow confirms, at least for now, that Natasha (Scarlett Johansson) is indeed really dead following the exchange for the Soul Stone in Avengers Endgame. While Natasha is back for the Black Widow movie, the film is a prequel set immediately following the events of Captain America: Civil War and prior to her death in Avengers: Endgame. However, the movie’s post-credits scene does offer a few more details since it leaps forward to after Black Widow’s death.
During the scene, Yelena (Florence Pugh) visits Natasha’s grave in an area that looks very like how Dreykov (Ray Winstone) described where Natasha’s biological mother was buried. There are several twists in this ending scene, including major teases for the Hawkeye Disney Plus show and maybe even the next Marvel movie Shang-Chi, however Black Widow shies away from what could’ve been the biggest twist. Yelena whistles at Natasha’s grave, in a way that the “sisters” did to each other a few times in the movie, and the scene goes quiet as Yelena listens for a response — unfortunately, it never comes. Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow is really dead.
