The first Shang-Chi reviews are in for the anticipated next chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the response has been stellar so far, with comments calling the movie “phenomenal” and even “the best superhero film of 2021 so far.” The early Shang-Chi reactions from critics and influencers were posted on social media following the movie’s premiere last night, and it looks like fans are in for another success with the newest Marvel Studios hero.
What do the first Shang-Chi reviews say?
The first Shang-Chi critic reactions are in, and they have been incredibly positive so far. Despite the release date for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings being September 3, the movie’s premiere was last night, with a lot of press and influencers being invited. While the review embargo still isn’t up yet, and press previews not coming until later this week, a number of the critics who were invited shared their impressions on social media — and are universally positive so far.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings earns the title of the best superhero film of 2021 so far. The action scenes are simply spectacular, especially the train & skyscraper scene. Best martial arts I’ve seen in a long time. Simu Liu & Awkwafina are terrific. #ShangChi pic.twitter.com/M0EEMJqKu3

Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings is PHENOMENAL. Get hyped. Even fight scene/action sequence is better than the last. @SimuLiu fully embraces the marvel superhero role. Amazing imagery. Killer soundtrack. You’ll want to see this on the big screen. #shangchi

#shangchi is like no Marvel movie you’ve seen. Love that it opens the door to a new world that I can’t wait to see more of. @SimuLiu literally kicks so much ass and he is perfectly cast. Got to see it in @imax tonight and this is how you want to see it. Looked and sounded perfect pic.twitter.com/43SaSxfx3m

Influencer Brandon Davis was one of the few to offer any criticisms at all, suggesting that the final act is a little bit “crazier” than was needed. Otherwise, his reaction was one of glowing praise, also noting that the movie’s action was “absurdly epic.” He also called it “loads of fun” and “integral to MCU Phase 4” — possibly as a note towards the post-credits scene, which usually offers big teases for the next Marvel movies and Disney Plus shows coming up. Black Widow’s credits scene featured a major hint towards the Hawkeye TV show and Shang-Chi itself, so it’s possible Shang-Chi may play to the multiverse and even this year’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.
#ShangChi is such a personal, family story at its core. That’s when it’s at its best.
The third act is full of surprises but sometimes is a little crazier than is needed. Ultimately delivers epic action and the intimate moments to land. Big MCU stuff.

Shang-Chi will release in the US and UK on September 3, before following on Disney Plus 45 days later. In addition to bringing in the multiverse, the MCU may be building towards a Dark Avengers movie, so look out for any hints about either when Shang-Chi comes out next month.
