Starfield PS5

Starfield PS5 release is not happening, Bethesda confirms

Is a Starfield PS5 release possible? It was looking highly unlikely in the first place, given that Bethesda was acquired by Microsoft back in September 2020. While Bethesda at that time did not rule out future releases from the publisher coming to PS5 or Nintendo Switch, it seemed certain that the studio’s latest RPG Starfield would not be one of them. Now, despite conflicting reports over the weekend from Microsoft and Bethesda, Bethesda may have just closed the door on this question.

Will there be a Starfield PS5 release?

Starfield PS5

Bethesda has now completely confirmed that Starfield will not be coming to PS5, despite several inaccurate reports and ambiguous statements to the contrary over the weekend.

GameSpot published a short interview with Bethesda’s Pete Hines and Xbox’s Aaron Greenberg, with Hines particularly noting that “there are Xbox brands that exist on other platforms… Minecraft didn’t just stop existing on anything once Mojang got bought by Xbox.” While he did go on to say that Starfield was announced as an Xbox exclusive, Hines also tried to make clear that he didn’t know if Bethesda was done making PlayStation games either. Some fans took this to mean Starfield might come to PS5 later, or was only a timed exclusive on Xbox.

Unfortunately for any fans hoping to see Starfield on PS5, Aaron Greenberg took to Twitter to confirm that Starfield is an Xbox and PC exclusive forever, not a timed one.

Pete Hines also went on to clarify his words and confirm that he wasn’t suggesting anything about Starfield going to PS5, along with posting a gif from Bob’s Burgers of Bob grasping at straws.

Anyone who wants to play Starfield will have to do so on PC or Xbox Series X in November 2022, as it’s definitely not coming out on PS5 or Nintendo Switch. It is, however, coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one.
