Sea of Thieves disable rats option

Sea of Thieves is getting rats but they can be disabled

Sea of Thieves Season 5 contains numerous quality of life improvements, though one new feature could have been a big downgrade. Rats are coming in the new update and will cause all kinds of mischief aboard players’ ships. For musophobia sufferers, however, nothing sounds further from a fun addition. Luckily, Sea of Thieves players can disable rats via the in-game accessibility options on Xbox Series X, Series S, Xbox One, and PC.

Sea of Thieves: Can you disable rats in SoT for Xbox and PC?

Sea of Thieves disable rats option

Yes, it’s possible to disable rats in Sea of Thieves via the in-game settings. Xbox and PC users can turn off rodents in SoT if they don’t want to encounter members of the Rattus family aboard their ship.

Even for non-musophobes, disabling rats will make life easier when sailing the Sea of Thieves. By the looks of it, rats can infest supply barrels and strip pirates of their essentials. Even worse, they can seemingly chew right through a ship’s hull and cause the vessel to take on water. This could result in the ship sinking, which would be quite an embarrassing way to lose a stockpile of loot.

In response to a fan inquiry on Twitter, @SeaOfThieves gave confirmation that the game will feature a toggle for getting rid of rats. As a fellow Xbox Game Studios title, Sea of Thieves’ so-called “Musophobia Mode” stands alongside the Arachnophobia Mode found in Obsidian Entertainment’s Grounded.

During last weekend’s Gold & Glory event, Sea of Thieves went down with the “Coralbeard” error. It could reoccur with the launch of the fifth season on December 2, so be sure to bookmark the solution.

In other news, BioShock Isolation and BioShock creator Ken Levine’s new game could both debut at The Game Awards 2021 next month.
