Arma Reforger Marks Franchise Console Debut But Not on PS5 or PS4

Bohemia Interactive took to Twitch today to reveal the future of its Arma franchise. While they confirmed Arma 4 is currently in development, the franchise’s immediate future is in the form of the release of Arma Reforger into Early Access on Steam and Game Preview on Xbox Series X|S, marking Arma’s console debut. However, PS5 and PS4 gamers seemingly miss out as there was no sign of Arma Reforger coming to those consoles.

An early look at things to come for Arma

Arma Reforger is based on the new Enfusion engine but takes players back to a familiar location, the mid-Atlantic island of Everon that featured in Arma: Cold War Assault. As such, the 52km² microstate in the Malden Islands has been reimagined to become their “most photorealistic and beautiful environment to date”.

Set in 1989, players can choose to join US or Soviet forces in Conflict, a multiplayer team game mode. To be successful, players must work together to build their own support structures and defenses, capture and hold key objectives, and form their own strategies with period-authentic weapons and vehicles. Game Master mode also allows players to edit missions in real-time, setting tasks and challenges, and creating events in response to other players who are in the midst of battle. PC players benefit from the ability to create mods in a suite called Workbench, made from the same technology Bohemia used to create the game. All mods and add-ons will then be published on a mod repository called the Workshop for both PC and Xbox players to try out.

The game is currently available on both Steam and Xbox Series X|S for $29.99 and aims to be a bridge to the upcoming Arma 4. Little else was said about the upcoming title, although Bohemia has promised not to neglect Reforger as development on Arma 4 becomes more intensive. There was no mention of Reforger possibly coming to PlayStation consoles in the future.

In other news, Bloober Team has refused to comment on the rumored Silent Hill 2 Remake but is hoping to make an announcement soon. Elsewhere, Xbox Game Pass will add a massive 12 games to Xbox Game Pass over the rest of the month, including Jurassic World Evolution 2 today.
