Rumors of a new Fire Emblem game have been gathering pace over the last couple of days, and today they were backed up by a handful of screenshots. The untitled and unannounced game was reportedly intended to be released in time for celebrating the franchise’s 30th anniversary at the end of 20202. While it sounds like that target wasn’t reached, the game has been finished for over a year.
What we know about the unannounced Fire Emblem game
The unannounced Fire Emblem game is reported to be a completely new story and not a remake of a previous game. According to renowned Nintendo leaker Emily Rogers, as shared by a now-deleted post on ResetEra, the main character has “strange red and blue hair” while his mother is a dragon. The main character is just one of many new characters in game, which was also going to include a new “Emblems” gimmick that allowed players to summon Fire Emblem characters “from the past” to be included in the squad. Some aspects of the game have been borrowed from a canceled Fire Emblem game that was originally heading to the Nintendo Wii.
The game is supposed to be a collaboration between Intelligent Systems, Koei Tecmo, and Gust, the latter of which has assisted with the graphics. While the screenshots that leaked today via Reddit are of low quality, the graphics are supposed to be an improvement over Fire Emblem: Three Houses. A couple of those images can be seen above.
Originally intended to be released in time to celebrate Fire Emblem’s 30th anniversary at the end of 2020, the game seemed to miss that deadline (albeit not by much). The game has been finished for over a year and nobody quite knows why there has been a delay in announcing it. However, many are expecting it to make an appearance at this month’s Nintendo Direct, which is now rumored to be taking place on June 29. There’s apparently also a full remake of Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, but whether that will show up at the Direct is a mystery.
In other news, the Assassin’s Creed Remake rumors have started following the 15th-anniversary celebration stream. Elsewhere, Halo Infinite developer 343 Industries attracted allegations of racism after they released a Juneteenth nameplate called Bonobo.
