Roblox Oof Sound Being Removed Today Due to Licensing Dispute

The infamous Roblox Oof sound, the sound that plays when a character resets or dies, is being completely removed from the game today due to a licensing dispute. The team has created a new replacement death sound that will be available immediately, and more sounds will be available in the future.

The Roblox Oof sound has a checkered history. The sound’s creator, Tommy Tallarico became involved in a copyright dispute with Roblox, claiming developers David Baszucki and Erik Cassel got the sound from an illegal website. The duo disputed this but the argument continued until 2020 when Roblox agreed to remove the Oof sound after the Developer Marketplace was introduced. The sound was later added back and could be purchased from the Marketplace, but this will no longer be the case. Due to the ongoing licensing issues, the Roblox Oof sound has been removed and replaced with a new default sound following an update to the game today.

Roblox says it will expand the Avatar Shop with a range of new and familiar sounds at some point in the future, although more details are promised soon. Further down the line, the game’s roadmap will let players buy sounds directly from creators and licensors to use in the game, so the sound can be customized just like clothing can be. Eventually, all assets will be available from the Avatar Shop. Until then, disappointed players will have to get used to a new Oof sound whenever they die or reset their character in the future.

In other news, the latest Destiny 2 hotfix has made sure players get Silver Leaves rewards from all of the correct modes, as well as fixing an exploit. Elsewhere, the Epic SummerSlam will bring wrestling-themed items to Fortnite, Rocket League, and Fall Guys, including John Cena and The Undertaker.
