Henry Cavill to Return as Superman? Warner Bros. Allegedly Want the Actor Back

Industry insiders have suggested that Henry Cavill’s time as Superman may not be up and that he could potentially return as the Man of Steel to the DC Extended Universe, if Warner Bros. gets its way. The actor himself, however, may need a little more convincing to don the cape once more.

During a conversation on Twitter Spaces, Umberto Gonzalez from The Wrap and Erik Davis from Fandango revealed the news (via CBR). Davis said he had “heard a story that they’ve asked [Cavill to return], and he doesn’t want to do it,” before Gonzalez claimed that those at Warner Bros. Discovery “like [Cavill] as Superman,” suggesting he is in their sights and future plans.

Cavill first stepped into the shoes of Clark Kent in the 2013 movie Man of Steel. He returned in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016 and Justice League in 2017. Exactly where Davis has heard that the actor doesn’t want to make a comeback from isn’t clear. Cavill has expressed a desire to play the hero again in the future, as recently as December 2021.

A lot of rumors have been circulating as to the future of the DCEU, with some suggesting that a direct sequel to Man of Steel could be in the pipeline. Others say that Cavill could take the lead in Ta-Nehisi Coates and J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Superman flick. Reports alongside these rumors also claimed that Cavill would be appearing at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2022 to promote the aforementioned projects, but this didn’t happen. Dwayne Johnson did however stoke the flames after fielding questions about who would win in a fight: Superman, or his character, Black Adam.

In other news, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has confirmed a bunch of new movies and TV shows for Phase 5, while spoilers and leaks for Black Panther 2 may have found their way online.
