Tom Cruise Is Working on a Les Grossman Movie, Musical, and Action Thriller

Tom Cruise is returning to the big screen for some major projects after his work on Mission Impossible 8. After the critical and commercial success of Top Gun: Maverick in 2022, Cruise and producer/co-writer Christopher McQuarrie are teaming up for three brand new projects.

The two are currently working together on Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part Two, the eighth entry in the action franchise, which McQuarrie is writing and directing. Cruise also plans to reprise the role of Les Grossman from Tropic Thunder and is taking on a musical. While fans wait for more death-defying stunts, these two have a few more tricks up their sleeve that they are set to work on soon.

What is Tom Cruise’s next movie?

A teaser trailer has been released for the seventh Mission: Impossible film, where Cruise will reprise his role as IMF agent Ethan Hunt. Soon after this action spy movie franchise comes to a close in 2024, Cruise will get to work on new projects with McQuarrie.

Deadline revealed they have three more upcoming projects, one of which will be an original song-and-dance musical that will serve as a vehicle for Cruise. Cruise has previously showcased his singing ability in the 2012 film Rock of Ages. He is also set to star in a new action thriller with franchise potential.

One of the more exciting announcements is that Cruise will reprise his iconic role as Les Grossman in an upcoming project. Cruise portrayed the loud, profane studio executive in the 2008 comedy Tropic Thunder. Cruise’s bald head, fat hands, and dance moves will be returning to the big screen very soon, although there is no word yet on whether Grossman will be in a standalone spin-off or if he will be included in either of the previously mentioned films.

Cruise and McQuarrie have previously worked together on Jack Reacher and the two latest Mission: Impossible films starting with Rogue Nation. They are also collaborating with director Doug Liman, NASA, and Elon Musk‘s SpaceX to make the first movie to be partially filmed in outer space. With this much on the horizon and Cruise recently making the highest-grossing film of his career, the action hero is not slowing down anytime soon.

In other news, Netflix games have not been doing well recently, the MultiVersus player count has topped 10 million, and Warner Bros. allegedly wants Henry Cavill to return as Superman.
