Update (9/1/2022, 1:18 PM): Tony Huynh, co-founder of Player First Games, has confirmed via tweet that “Gizmo and Stripe are two separate characters.” There’s no mention yet on whether both characters will be revealed next Tuesday or if either character will be added immediately onto the game’s roster on that day. (The original story follows.)
A surprise Multiversus Gizmo reveal on Twitter by Player First Games has created confusion how Stripe will be released on the roster. The short but sweet trailer suggests that Gizmo, also from Gremlins, will be arriving “on Tuesday,” which would be a release date of September 6 that’s interestingly before Rick Sanchez is planned to be added. But the question of whether Gizmo and Stripe will be one character like Tom & Jerry or two separate characters has not been clearly answered.
Are Gizmo and Stripe linked or separate characters?

The brief video above shows a black silhouette of Stripe sprinting in front of the camera and ransacking the room before Gizmo’s hands is revealed coming out of the treasure chest. A tricycle and a bucket of popcorn tease some attacks in Gizmo’s moveset. What the video seems to suggest, though, is that Stripe will be a separate character and not paired with Gizmo as a two-in-one character as originally thought. But the fact that they’re in the same trailer together also suggests that they may have some kind of relationship as a duo. It’s all rather up in the air at this point.
A prominent Multiversus leaker known as @multiversusie on Twitter believed on August 15 that Gizmo and Stripe would be “like a Pyra and Mythra situation” in that “they’re 2 characters in 1.” Given that a leaked Multiversus roster in early August paired Gizmo and Stripe together in the same entry, and that Tom & Jerry already work as a pair in the game, this seemed to be the case. However, Stripe appeared as a separate character with Black Adam in another leak around the same time. Similar to how Zelda/Sheik works in Super Smash Bros., other users on Twitter speculated that Gizmo would turn into Stripe after receiving a set amount of damage or that Gizmo would have to eat a lot of candy before transforming into his counterpart. Hopefully, all this confusion will be cleared up when Player First Games reveals Gizmo and/or Stripe next week as promised.
In other news, Assassin’s Creed Mirage has finally been announced by Ubisoft and will appear in the Ubisoft Forward presentation, while Halo Infinite’s split-screen co-op has been unceremoniously canceled.
